IT&C Primary Operations Facility to be Built by Leidos Subsidiary Antarctic Support Contract (ASC)

The National Science Foundation has authorized Reston, Va.-based Leidos Corp., its prime Antarctic contractor, to begin construction on a new facility that will house upgraded and centralized network operations and telecommunications at McMurdo Station, the nation's flagship research complex on the southernmost continent.

Leidos Innovations Corporation (Leidos), who provides logistical support to the National Science Foundation (NSF) managed U.S. Antarctic Program, is holding two upcoming "industry days". Leidos is encouraging prime and lower-tier subcontractors who are interesting in learning more about projects and acquisition under the Antarctic Infrastructure Modernization for Science (AIMS) program, to attend the upcoming conferences. The AIMS program is a large, multi-phase program that consists of four major construction projects, three of them design-build (DB) and one design-bid-build (DBB).
AIMS Passes Major Milestones
Completion of the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Briefs to the Major Research Equipment and Facilities Construction (MREFC) Panel

The AIMS Project recently completed the Preliminary Design Review stage, a major milestone in the development of new facilities and infrastructure for McMurdo Station. Additionally, in late March NSF briefed the project to the MREFC Panel. These are two major milestones in the competition for MREFC funding which is designated for just such a project. The next step is a project briefing to the National Science Board (NSB) in early May.
